“When I was a little kid I always drew up my room in my house. I would always draw the plans for that. You’d always see me just in my room, making new plans, making a new house, designing a building.”

Jose Manzanares, an Upward Bound student from Levelland High School, said he has wanted to be an architect since his 8th grade year of school. PSC invited Jose to shadow architects in the Lubbock office including Ashlee Horsely, Zachary Garrett, Austin Moore and Aaron Rivera.

During Jose’s latest shadowing visit, Aaron showed Jose aspects of the design process in Studio 2. They also toured the First Assembly of God, Bacon Heights Baptist Church and the site of the new John Saleh Catholic Student Center.

“I like how everybody here creates a family tone,” Jose said. “They bond well together. I think that interests me, because I like working as a team, and if there’s a chance I would like to show some leadership. It’s impacted me to set my goal.”
